What Does Deep Cleaning Include? A Toronto & GTA Homeowner’s Guide

Updated: Oct 18
Deep cleaning targets accumulated dirt and the details that routine house cleaning can leave behind: kitchen grease, bathroom soap buildup, baseboards, door frames, accessible vents, floor edges and overlooked corners. The exact checklist depends on your home and the agreed quote. Oven interiors, fridge interiors, cabinet interiors, window washing and carpet shampooing should be listed explicitly before booking.
For homeowners in Aurora, Toronto and the GTA, the most useful question is therefore: “Which surfaces, rooms and extras are included in my particular visit?” This guide explains how to answer that question, compare quotes and check the result.
Deep cleaning versus regular cleaning
Regular cleaning maintains a home: wiping frequently used surfaces, cleaning bathrooms, removing everyday dust, vacuuming and mopping. Deep cleaning spends more attention on established buildup and detailed surfaces.
The difference is often the work required on the same surface. A quick wipe of a kitchen cabinet door is maintenance; carefully removing sticky grease from the door edges and handles is detailed cleaning. A bathroom may look tidy while shower-door tracks still hold residue.
Neither service name describes a universal package. Compare written task lists, rather than assuming every company uses “deep clean” in the same way. A lower quote covering fewer surfaces may be a different service altogether.
A room-by-room deep cleaning checklist
Use the following as a planning checklist. Arvand Group Cleaning confirms your priorities and scope before the appointment; access, surface condition and selected extras affect what can be completed.
Kitchen: grease, food residue and appliance details
Degrease compatible stovetop surfaces, backsplash areas and the accessible range-hood exterior.
Detail cabinet fronts, edges and handles.
Clean countertops, the sink, faucet and surrounding edges with products suitable for their materials.
Wipe appliance fronts and handles, and clean the microwave interior when included.
Detail accessible baseboards, floor corners and cabinet toe-kick areas.
Vacuum and mop the floor, including accessible edges.
Ask separately about cleaning inside the oven, fridge, drawers, pantry and cabinets. Empty interiors make access easier. Tell the team about baked-on food, wax, adhesive or heavy grease before the quote is finalized.
Cleaning behind a fridge or stove also needs an access plan. Appliances may have water, gas or electrical connections and can damage flooring if moved carelessly. Do not assume moving or disconnecting them is included.
Bathrooms: buildup around edges and fixtures
Clean the toilet bowl, seat, exterior and accessible base.
Detail the tub, shower, sink and compatible tile surfaces.
Treat soap residue and removable mineral buildup using surface-appropriate methods.
Clean shower-glass edges and accessible tracks.
Wipe vanity fronts, handles, mirrors, fixtures and accessible baseboards.
Clean accessible vent covers and the floor around fixtures.
Some marks are wear rather than dirt. Etched glass, rust damage, discoloured sealant or damaged grout may remain after cleaning. A useful inspection distinguishes removable residue from a surface that needs repair.
Bedrooms and living spaces: dust beyond open surfaces
Dust accessible shelves, ledges and furniture surfaces.
Detail doors, frames, trim and baseboards within the agreed scope.
Remove reachable cobwebs.
Clean accessible window sills and tracks when included.
Dust accessible light fixtures and vent-cover surfaces.
Vacuum and mop appropriate floors, including accessible edges and under beds where clearance allows.
Cleaning under a bed depends on its height, stored items and safe access. Moving heavy furniture, dismantling fittings or reaching high ceilings should be discussed in advance. Vacuuming upholstery removes loose debris; it is different from wet extraction or shampooing.
Stairs, entrances and overlooked areas
List hallways, stair treads, handrails, landings, closets and the basement as distinct areas in your request. “Whole home” can be ambiguous when a property has several levels or rooms used for storage. Name any rooms you want excluded as well.
Extras to confirm before accepting a quote
These services may be available, but the words “deep cleaning” alone do not confirm their inclusion:
Inside fridge and oven cleaning.
Inside cabinets, drawers, closets and pantry shelves.
Full wall washing instead of limited spot cleaning.
Interior or exterior window-glass cleaning, frames and screens.
Carpet, rug, sofa or mattress shampooing.
Detailed blinds cleaning.
Areas behind appliances or heavy furniture.
Balcony work, exterior power washing and outdoor tasks.
For windows, specify glass, tracks, frames and screens separately. For carpets and upholstery, identify the material, stain type and drying constraints. Combining services can be convenient, but each needs sufficient time and the right equipment.
How long does a deep clean take?
Size matters, but condition and scope can matter just as much. A small kitchen with heavy grease and several appliance interiors can require more work than a larger, regularly maintained room. Extra bathrooms, clutter, stairs and difficult access also affect the estimate.
Always distinguish elapsed time from total cleaner-hours:
Total cleaner-hours = the sum of each cleaner’s actual working hours.
If two cleaners each work four hours, the appointment uses eight cleaner-hours. One cleaner working eight hours also provides eight cleaner-hours. A larger team may finish sooner, but that does not automatically reduce the labour quantity or price.
These are examples explaining billing, not a promise that your home will be finished in four or eight hours. Ask how the company handles additional work if the original estimate proves insufficient, and agree on priorities and a budget limit before starting.
How much does deep cleaning cost in Toronto and the GTA?
There is no reliable single price for every home. Request an estimate based on bedrooms, bathrooms, approximate size, condition, occupied or vacant status, selected extras and access arrangements.
For an hourly quote, confirm the rate per cleaner, estimated total cleaner-hours, applicable minimum, supplies, taxes and any separately quoted items. If a quote specifies $50 per cleaner-hour, for example, eight cleaner-hours equal $400 before applicable taxes or extras. This is an arithmetic example, not a current published offer or a fixed price for your property.
For a flat-rate quote, confirm the exact rooms and tasks covered and what would count as a change in scope. A fixed price is useful when both parties agree on the work it buys.
Arvand provides estimates for homes across its service area. Share photos of the areas needing the most attention so the quote reflects the actual job, rather than only the number of bedrooms.
Choosing the right clean for your situation
An occupied home: Prioritize kitchen buildup, bathrooms and detailed surfaces. Identify items that should stay untouched and keep private belongings out of the work areas.
A vacant home or property handover: Empty cupboards and appliances can reveal residue that was previously hidden. Review our move-in and move-out cleaning service and specify the interiors you need cleaned.
A home after renovations: Tell the company about construction dust, paint, adhesive and unfinished work. Our post-renovation cleaning service addresses a different scope from ordinary household maintenance. Identify delicate new finishes before cleaning starts.
A home before guests or a property showing: Set the priorities around what will be used and inspected: bathrooms, kitchen surfaces, entrance, floors and visible details. If window streaks are a concern, arrange a check in suitable daylight.
Cleaning, disinfecting and mould are different tasks
Cleaning physically removes dirt and reduces germs on surfaces. Disinfecting is a separate process using an appropriate product according to its label. The Public Health Agency of Canada recommends cleaning first, then disinfecting where needed, and checking for a Drug Identification Number on approved disinfectants. Read its cleaning and disinfecting guidance.
Disinfectant contact time matters: an immediate wipe may not meet the label instructions. Share product sensitivities, pets and delicate surfaces with your cleaner. Strong fragrance is not evidence of better cleaning, and no cleaner should promise that every product is harmless for every household. Health Canada explains why products must be used as directed and why bleach must never be mixed with other cleaners in its household chemical safety guidance.
Visible or recurring mould needs its own assessment. Surface cleaning does not fix a leak or persistent moisture. Health Canada recommends professional help for large mould problems or mould that returns after cleaning. See its guide to moisture and mould indoors. Household deep cleaning should not be presented as structural mould remediation.
How to prepare for the appointment
Send the property size, bedroom and bathroom count, location and desired date.
Photograph difficult areas and list your three highest priorities.
Confirm appliance interiors, windows, carpets and other extras in writing.
Clear counters and floor access where practical; explain any organizing help you need.
Arrange entry, parking and any condo building requirements ahead of time.
Flag fragile finishes, damaged fixtures, pets and product preferences.
Confirm price, payment arrangements and how additional work will be approved.
For a Toronto condo, building access can affect the appointment. For a multi-level house in Aurora or York Region, identify the basement and stairs explicitly. Location alone does not determine the cleaning workload; the layout and agreed tasks do.
A practical quality check before the team leaves
Walk through the agreed task list with the team. Look at cabinet handles and edges, the accessible toilet base, shower tracks, baseboards and floor corners. If fridge or oven interiors were included, inspect them before replacing contents.
Check glass in daylight where possible. Photographs can help document completed work when everyone agrees to them, but one wide room photo cannot confirm every detailed surface. Ask about a missed item promptly, and distinguish an omitted task from damage or a stain that cleaning cannot remove.
The aim is an observable result: the listed areas have been cleaned, limitations have been explained, and any remaining work is clear.
Frequently asked questions
Does deep cleaning include the oven and fridge interiors?
Only when those tasks are included in your agreed scope. Ask for interiors and exteriors to be named separately, and confirm whether appliances need to be emptied.
Does it include carpet or sofa shampooing?
Vacuuming and shampooing are different services. Ask specifically for carpet or upholstery extraction, an appropriate material assessment and drying guidance.
Do I need to be home?
You can discuss a secure access arrangement with Arvand. Being present can help establish priorities and complete a final walkthrough, but confirm the arrangement when booking.
Are supplies included?
Arvand’s team brings cleaning supplies and equipment. Tell us about special surface-care instructions or preferred products before the visit so suitability can be discussed.
How often should I arrange deep cleaning?
Base the decision on visible buildup, your maintenance routine and upcoming events. A seasonal review can be useful, but every home does not need the same schedule.
Is every stain removable?
No. Results depend on the material and cause of the mark. Permanent staining, worn finishes and damaged grout or glass may require specialist treatment or repair.
